Commissions

Seating
Over the years Jones Furniture Designs has produced a number of custom chairs, couches, and benches. Please click on the image to the right to see a selection of our work in this area.
Tables and Desks
A dining or coffee table can define the character of a room. Much of our work has been in this area and spans the range from a full sized dining room table that can seat ten to a small lighted table designed to hold a single piece of art glass. Please click on the image to the right to view the gallery of custom tables and desks.
Sleeping
Custom beds have not been in great demand, however the bed featured here (please click on the image for a larger version) has been single most satisfying commission of the last few years. This bed showcases the strong Asian influence in our designs.

Storage
A large table may dominate a room, but no less important is the sideboard against the wall. A good design can complete a room as well as provide valuable space to display heirlooms or just store extra kitchen equipment. We have also built a number of other cabinets and vanities. Please click on the image to the right to see the gallery.
Accessories
Jones Furniture Designs has been called on to design and build a wide variety of accessory and art pieces. Some are furniture, including music and instrument stands, lamps and clocks. Others are artistic room screens and sculpture. Please click on the image to the right to see what we have done.
Turned Art
While the bulk of our turning is architectural (please see that category for more information) we have produced a number of artistic turned pieces, including segmented vases and urns. One such segmented turning was featured in the ‘Art of the State’ exhibition at The State Museum of Pennsylvania in the summer of 2011. Is This Right For Me?

Are you frustrated with searching for just the right piece of furniture to fit your space and personal sense of style? Are you tired of knowing that what you buy just isn’t meant to last? If so, then a custom piece built to the highest standards may be for you. While the sky can be the limit when it comes to complexity and price, most of the furniture we build is priced comparably with high end furniture retailers.

If you are interested, here are the steps:

Initial Consultation

You may have an existing piece of furniture that you want to compliment or just a general style in mind. We will explore those issues plus any other likes or dislikes that can guide my design. If you have particular requirements, I may ask to see the space where the piece will live. Regardless, I am equally happy meeting with you at your office or home, or at my shop at the Slaughterhouse Gallery & Studios.

Design Process

Once I have a general idea of what you want I will design the piece and present you with two or three options. I do all of my designing with a 3D CAD program, so I will be able to show you fully rendered three dimensional pictures. If you are not totally happy, I will work with the design until it is right. At that point I will present you with a contract detailing the piece including the price, wood, finish, and hardware. If we are agreed, then we will sign it and you will pay the deposit (50% of the final price).

Construction

While I use machines and power tools for all of the heavy work, I try to use hand tools for the final surfaces as much as possible. This gives my furniture a traditional, hand worked feel. Too much modern furniture looks like plastic to me; I want my work to still look and feel like wood when I am finished.

I build one project at a time. Payment of the deposit puts you on the list and I will build your piece when you reach the top. I will be happy to keep you updated on the status of your project.
